Issue:
Users may occasionally encounter a situation in Micro Focus UFT (Unified Functional Testing) where navigating to:
Resources > Object Repository
Does not visibly open the Object Repository Manager window. Despite repeated attempts, the window appears to be unresponsive or missing entirely from the screen.
Cause:
This issue is commonly related to how Windows handles application window positions. It is not directly caused by UFT itself but is often a result of:
The Object Repository Manager window being positioned off-screen (e.g., due to changes in monitor configuration, such as disconnecting an external display).
-
UFT restoring the last known window position, which may now be outside the current visible screen area.
Steps:
To bring the off-screen Object Repository Manager window back into view, follow these keyboard shortcuts:
Make sure UFT is the active window.
-
Press the following keys in sequence:
Alt(brings focus to the top menu)Space(opens the window control menu)M(selects the "Move" option)
Use the arrow keys (↑ ↓ ← →) to move the window back into view.
Once the window is visible, use your mouse or press
Enterto finalize the window’s position.
Alternative Method:
If the above method does not work or is inconvenient:
Restart UFT.
Press
Windows key + Arrow keys(left or right) while the UFT window is focused. This uses the Windows Snap feature to reposition windows, which may help bring any off-screen dialogs back into view.
Additional Info:
This is a Windows OS behavior and not a defect in UFT.
This issue can occur with other dialog windows in UFT or other applications if they were previously positioned on a now non-existent display.
It's recommended to reset window positions or dock all windows after reconnecting or removing external monitors.
Updating display drivers or configuring display settings to "Extend" or "Duplicate" appropriately may reduce such occurrences.
