Applies To:

  • SiteScope versions 11.33 and above
  • Environments where SiteScope is integrated with BSM / APM
  • Users experiencing unexpected GUI session logouts during active usage

Issue:

Users are being frequently logged out of the SiteScope GUI even while actively using the application. This behavior can cause confusion and impact usability, especially during configuration or monitoring tasks.

Cause:

Starting with SiteScope version 11.33, a default idle session timeout feature was introduced as a security measure.
By default, the session timeout is configured for 20 minutes of inactivity. However, in some environments, users may experience logouts sooner than the configured limit, even when actively interacting with the system.

This timeout also impacts integrations with other HPE products, such as:

  • BSM (Business Service Management)
  • APM (Application Performance Management)

In these cases, accessing SiteScope via APM → Admin → System Availability Management may result in apparent disconnections or timeouts, leading to a false impression of integration failure.

Steps:

To disable the session timeout (for trusted environments where this is acceptable), follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the following file:
    • <SiteScope>\groups\master.config
  2. Locate the following parameter:
    • _maxSessionTimeMinutes=20
  3. Update the parameter value to:
    • _maxSessionTimeMinutes=-1

Setting the value to -1 disables the session timeout completely.

  4. Save the file.

  5. Restart the SiteScope service for the changes to take effect.

Additional Info:

  • This setting should be used with caution, especially in production environments where security policies require session timeouts.
  • Disabling session timeout can expose the system to unauthorized access risks if sessions are left unattended.
  • It's recommended to consult with security teams or administrators before applying this change in environments with strict compliance requirements.
  • This change can be useful in test environments or for administrative users who require uninterrupted sessions for long durations.
