Applies To:

  1. UFT One 2021 R1 (and potentially other versions)
  2. Windows 10 Enterprise

Issue:

When attempting to open a test from a mapped network/shared drive in UFT One, the mapped drive is not visible in the file explorer dialog within UFT One.
The same drive is accessible through Windows File Explorer, and users have the correct permissions. Even after re-mapping the drive, UFT One still does not display it.

Cause:

This behavior may occur due to Windows User Account Control (UAC) restrictions. When UAC is enabled, applications running with elevated privileges (such as UFT One) may not display network drives mapped in a non-elevated session.

Steps:

Option 1: Disable UAC (for testing purposes)

1. Open a DOS prompt and type regedit.
2. Navigate to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
3. Locate the EnableLUA DWORD value.
4. Change the value from 1 to 0.
5. Reboot the machine.
6. Ensure the required drive is mapped before launching UFT One.

If the mapped drive appears in UFT One after disabling UAC, then UAC is the root cause.

Option 2: Keep UAC Enabled but Allow Network Drives

If disabling UAC resolves the issue, a more targeted configuration can be applied to allow mapped drives to be visible while keeping UAC enabled:
• Enable the Linked Connections policy in Windows.
• This synchronizes network drive mappings between elevated and non-elevated sessions.
