Applies to:

This issue applies to deployments of monitoring tools such as SiteScope or Operations Bridge Express where license capacity for OS instances is enforced.

Issue:

During rollout of monitoring, an error message may appear:

"Error Description: You have insufficient OS instances license capacity available to add this monitor, since it will take you over the 12 OS instances capacity limit for this license edition."

This error prevents adding new servers or monitors even if more licenses were purchased.

Cause:

The error occurs when the monitoring tool detects that the number of allocated OS instance licenses exceeds the available entitlement. In many cases, this is due to:

1. Only a subset of purchased entitlements being activated (e.g., 12 licenses activated instead of the full amount).
2. User account access not linked to the correct entitlement pool.
3. Licenses not yet activated or applied to the target machine.

Steps:

To resolve the issue, follow these steps:

1. Verify the total entitlements available in the License and Downloads (SLD) portal.
2. Ensure the correct user account has access to all purchased entitlements under the organization.
3. Grant administrator access to the account managing licenses, so all entitlements can be viewed and activated.
4. Gather the following information for license activation:
   - Target Name (machine name where licenses will be applied).
   - Locking Information (IP address or Host ID).
   - Version of the product (e.g., 25.2).
   - Quantity to activate (match with purchased entitlements).

5. Activate the license files through the vendor portal or request activation on your behalf.
6. Apply the newly generated license files to the monitoring server.

Once applied, the monitoring tool should recognize the updated license capacity and allow additional OS instances.

Please Note:

1. Ensure licenses are activated for the correct version (e.g., 23.4, 25.2).
2. License files must be applied on the target machine where monitoring is configured.
3. If upgrading or migrating environments, re-validation of entitlements may be required.
