Issue:
What needs to be backup up for QC/ALM?
Steps:
Backing up Quality Center:
The data stored in the databases should be protected by backing up Quality Center projects. Quality Center stores data in the following locations:
Note:
Before any attempt is made to backup the projects, the Quality Center service needs to be stopped first.
- Domain repository - This contains automated tests, attachments, settings, and style sheets for each project. The domain repository path is defined during the installation of Quality Center.
To verify the domain repository location of a project, select a project from the Projects list in the Site Administrator's Projects tab. In the right pane, the Project Directory box indicates the domain repository path of the project. The default location is given below:
Windows:
C:\Program Files\HP\ALM\repository\qc
Linux/Unix:
/opt/HP/ALM/repository/qc
Note:
If projects or tests are stored outside of the domain repository, then those need to be back up as well. Above is the default path for ALM, older versions or custom path’s might be different from the default.
- Database server - This contains all other project data (such as manual tests, defects, customization, test sets, attachments and test runs). To verify the name of the database for the project, select a project from the Projects list in the Site Administrator's Projects tab. In the right pane, the Database Name line indicates the project's database name.
- Site Admin Schema- Contains the Site Administration data such as user's information and the projects list. To verify the name of the database for the Site Admin schema, look at the dbcon.txt file under <QC_HOME>\repository\qc.
Example:
schema_name@database_server.port.database
To have a thorough backup of the QC projects, both the project database and the file system repository need to be backed up.
