Applies to:
All versions of ALM/QC, but most relevant to QC 10
Issue:
Is it possible to customize certain things relating to how the Doc Generator comes out such as:
1) Chapters/numbering - Do these have to come out on the Report? Is there a way to hide them?
2) White space between chapters/Requirements/sections - there are 3 or 4 blank lines between sections, which takes up a lot of space and diminishes readability. Can these be cleaned up?
3) Attachments/Rich Text does not print if they are on a Folder requirement type.
4) Font and/or Font size - Can this be adjusted?
Steps:
1) Chapters/numbering - Do these have to come out on the Report? Is there a way to hide them?
The chapter numbers are generated by default in generation of the documents. You may be able to delete these from the template, see below in number 4.
2) White space between chapters/Requirements/sections - there are 3 or 4 blank lines between sections, which takes up a lot of space and diminishes readability. Can these be cleaned up?
The options to control page breaks are located in several checkboxes within the document generator. A couple of places to check would be:
1. Options - Select Do not generate a paragraph if there is no corresponding project information if you do not want to include empty data fields in the project document.
2. If using Full Page Layout, consider using Tabular Layout and customizing the table. Use the Tabular Layout dialog box to choose the columns that will appear in the table, and set the column order, width, and captions.
3. If you want to continue using Full Page Layout - You can de-select Inserts page breaks in the project document after each requirement option in each section of Requirements and Business Components.
4. Check under Test Plan, Test Lab (Each test Set as well) and Defects sections for Page Break settings. These should be off if you do not want to generate white space between these report components.
3) Attachments/Rich Text does not print if they are on a Folder requirement type.
If you selected Full page as the Requirements Layout, you can set the option to include Rich Text from Document Requirements section. If you are using Tabular Layout, this is not an option.
4) Font and/or Font size - Can this be adjusted?
You can modify Document Generator reports by updating TDTmplt.tcf file under your projects temp directory in TD_80 folder.
QC uses Microsoft Word templates to create word document with the help of "Document Generator". This template files are archived in TDTmplt.tcf. This file gets downloaded every time you use document generator.
Follow the instructions below and use the RpgManager tool included with this email.
1. Extract word template from the file TDTmplt.tcf (included in this email attachment)
2. Modify word template. These templates are built with word bookmarks. Make sure you don’t break any of these book marks. (Instructions are found within the ZIP file)
3. Recompile TDTmplt.tcf file.
For above 3 steps use the utility included with this email.
4. Replace TDTmplt.tcf file in your project's temp directory and make that file read only, otherwise it will be overwritten by standard HP TDTmplt.tcf file when you use document generator. Important: Make a backup copy of your old .tcf files in case you need to start over.
5) Use Document Generator now. You will be able to see changes in Word document.
